On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Agriculture unveiled an update to its Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food Compass highlighting all of the ways USDA supports local and regional food projects.

The Compass consists of an interactive U.S. map showing local and regional food projects and an accompanying narrative documenting the results of this work through case studies, photos and video content. The new version includes new case studies and additional mapped data, including locations of farmers markets, food hubs and meat processing facilities. The KYF Compass organizes USDA’s work on local and regional food systems into seven thematic areas, found here.

USDA Deputy Secretary Kathleen Merrigan and White House Director of Public Engagement Jon Carson hosted a virtual roundtable on July 17 with women leaders across the country discussing the new Compass, as well as other issues surrounding local food and agriculture. Watch the roundtable video or download the audio at www.whitehouse.gov, and stay tuned for future opportunities to interact with Obama administration officials.
